TDE Part Deux
Yeah, I did it again. I went ahead and redesigned the blog. Some of you might be wondering why, so I might as well explain myself.
The Drunken Epic is heading in a different direction than I had originally intended. Instead of a joke-and-gag hate blog, it will focus more on development and industry updates. Don't get me wrong, you'll still get to hear me scream and complain about seemingly petty issues, but, for the most part, I'd like to try and keep this site clean and somewhat professional from here on out.
As for the previous design, it just didn't 'do it' for me. There were too many moving parts and all I really wanted was a simple blog interface. The design itself seem a bit too restricting and didn't give enough room for the actual blog entries. These factors are pretty much the reason why I didn't update the blog so often. So, I went in the opposite direction with something a bit more conventional and easy to manage.
You'll notice a good amount of standard blog features have been left out. I did this intentionally. This gives me the opportunity to sit back and focus on the site one piece at a time. More stuff will be added soon, but in the mean time I'll most likely be working on SEO stuff and possibly adding an 'about' and 'archive' area later on down the road. Archives will be be a simple full listing of all articles initially and then broken down by category. I might even add a full section search feature as well, but I'll most likely not be adding a 'search by date' feature. There is a partial archive feature if you try clicking on any of the tag / categories that each blog entry is assigned to; I'll be expanding a bit on this.
Anyhow, I really like the new look and hope you do too. I'll be adding bits and bobs over time rather than all at once. But, in the mean time I'm planning to add some decent, user-attracting content. I've had a few people asking me how to create the paper texture used here on the main article block as well as how to create realistic tape, so I'll probably start there.
So, what do you guys / gals think? And as far as tutorials and types of content, what would you guys like to see?
Well, looks like I still got a bit of work to do. Need to get rid of some XML tags that have snuck their way into the translated XHTML markup. This is making the validator go banana sandwiches on me.
